The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have carried out a series of arrests since Friday [May 22] amounting to charges being laid against a total of 136 people in Oman for violating the Supreme Committee for COVID-19’s directives prohibiting gatherings.
In statements issued online, ROP officials arrested 49 people in the Ghala Industrial Area for gathering for Eid prayers, 34 people in the Al Ansab area for gathering to play a cricket match, 13 people in Al Khoud for taking part in a rooftop gathering, and 49 people in Al Dhakiliyah Governorate for a lunch gathering.
The ROP has once again reminded the public to adhere to all precautions and directives set forth by Oman’s Supreme Committee for COVID-19, or face legal action.
As per the ROP, participating in a gathering carries a fine of OMR 100, while organizing a gathering will see violators incur a fine of OMR 1,500.
Currently, there are a total of 7,770 registered cases of COVID-19 in the Sultanate, with 513 recorded on Sunday [May 24] — the highest daily figure to date.
