The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have apprehended a wave of individuals on various criminal charges ranging from cyber-crime, to theft and smuggling in a spate of criminal activity over the last 48 hours.
In a statement issued online today [Monday, July 13], the ROP confirmed that, in the month of June, 2020, it arrested 100 defendants across the governorates who committed 83 instances of theft. Authorities have expressed their thanks for cooperation with citizens and residents who aided authorities “in the detection of these crimes.”
ROP officials have also confirmed today that its Department of Crime Prevention at the General Department of Criminal Investigations has arrested a female expatriate of African nationality for “publishing a video clip insulting the modesty of two children who are making out-of-ordinary movements without the knowledge of their relatives.” The woman has been charged under the cyber-crime law, and legal procedures are being completed against her.
Police in Muscat Governorate have also arrested a male suspect today on charges of violating public morals after the accused allegedly took a video with a domestic worker containing content that “contradicts the public order.” ROP officials have confirmed that legal action is being taken against the accused.
And on Sunday [July 12], ROP Coast Guard authorities, led by North Al Batinah police, intercepted a boat carrying 22 people of Asian nationalities with the intent of infiltrating them into the Sultanate. The boat was stopped off the coast of Al-Wadiiat in Shinas, and legal proceedings are being carried out against all on-board.
Finally, police in Al Dhahirah arrested three people on Sunday on charges of theft from “companies, homes, and farms in seven different cases.” Legal action has been taken against all three alleged accused.
