Residents of Oman could be facing a wet weekend ahead in the Sultanate as two tropical weather events could affect conditions locally.
Speaking to Merge’s sister station Al Wisal, Humood Al Naabi, a meteorologist with the Public Authority for Civil Aviation’s Directorate General of Meteorology, has said two weather fronts coming in from the Arabian Sea over the next couple of days could bring rain and thundershowers to parts of the country.
The first tropical event will develop in the next 48 hours and is likely to begin in the south Arabian Sea north of Soqotra Island, before moving towards the coast of Dhofar and over its nearby mountains, affecting weather conditions for up to three days.
Al Naabi stated that, while the tropical trough could turn into a depression, it will not develop into a cyclone as it is very close to the land.
The second tropical weather condition is expected to form at sea near the Indian subcontinent between May 29-31 and, while there is a possibility it could track towards the Sultanate, meteorological predictions are expecting it to move instead towards the Indian coastline.
