Oman’s Ministry of Health (MoH) has refuted rumours circulating about a text message sent to mobile numbers stating that the owner of the number has been selected to participate in its upcoming COVID-19 serological survey.

In a statement issued online this afternoon [Tuesday, July 7], the MoH said that they have not released any official communications yet to would-be participants and that the alleged text messages are fake.

The Ministry clarified that it will begin communicating directly with participants — both citizens and expats — who will be selected at random to take part in the survey starting from Sunday, July 12. The MoH has also once again reminded the public to only rely on information from official, verified sources.

The national serological survey will be conducted over a 10-week period, collecting roughly 20,000 samples from across the country to help determine the coronavirus’s path among the Sultanate’s population.
