Oman’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA)’s Directorate General of Meteorology has issued a weather warning for an upper-air low-pressure system out of the Arabian Sea that could bring heavy rain and thundershowers to parts of the Sultanate.
In a statement issued online today [Thursday, July 2], Oman’s National Multi Hazards Early Warning Center said the low-pressure disturbance could persist into Friday [July 3] over the governorates of Al Wusta, North and South Ash Sharqiyah, and Dhofar.
The authority has stated that heavy rainfall could lead to the overflow of wadis and flash floods in affected areas. Thundershowers and rainfall are expected to hit the above-mentioned areas with 35-80 mm of rain over the next 24 hours, bringing with it reduced horizontal visibility, strong winds, possible flooding, and rough seas along southeastern coastal regions with waves reaching 3-4 metres high.
Rains will most likely be intermittent in Muscat Governorate, while the Al Hajar Mountains are more likely to see gusting winds and hailstones.
