Speaking at today’s media briefing [Thursday, July 23], Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi, said that 140 companies are working on making vaccines, with three or four of them in the lead.

“Oman has placed orders to be prioritized once a vaccine is made,” he said, pointing out that it’s unlikely to have any vaccine before the fourth quarter of this year.

However, H.E. Dr. Al Saeedi said that the only means to prevent the spread of the pandemic is through following the preventive regulations.

Talking about the nation-wide lockdown that will start on Saturday [July 25], His Excellency said that “we hope we won’t need to extend this lockdown. This decision depends on the number of cases in the coming two weeks.”
