Oman’s Government Communications Centre (GCC) has cautioned the public against adhering to a fake warning letter being circulated on social media claiming to have been issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP).

In a statement issued online, the GCC has said that the alleged letter has no affiliation with the ROP’s official channels.

The ‘letter’ claims to warn the public of a scam that involves perpetrators going door-to-door offering free face-masks as part of a government program. The alleged warning goes on to say that the perpetrators are then attempting to drug people who try on the masks and rob their homes.

In its statement, the GCC has said that there is no truth to what is being reported about a police warning message and have cautioned the public to be aware when dealing with strangers.
