COVID-19: ROP detain expats in Buraimi for attending funeral gathering

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have detained a number of expatriates in Al Buraimi Governorate who were found attending a funeral ceremony in direct violation of the Supreme Committee for COVID-19’s directive prohibiting gatherings.

In a statement issued online today [Sunday, May 31] the ROP have confirmed that legal action is being carried out against them.

As per directives issued by Oman’s Supreme Committee for COVID-19 on May 21, those found organizing or inviting people for gatherings will face a fine of OMR 1,500, while those found to be participating in gatherings will be subject to a fine of OMR 100.

ROP officials have also confirmed that further fines have been issued today in South Al Batinah Governorate against several individuals found to be “violating the decisions and conditions” of the Supreme Committee for COVID-19.
