Rescue teams from the Public Authority for Civil Defense and Ambulance (PACDA) have rescued three people late yesterday evening who became trapped inside a vehicle after attempting to cross a flooded wadi in the Wilayat of Thumrait.

In a statement issued online, PACDA confirmed that all three were evacuated safely and were detained after the rescue to face legal action.

PACDA authorities have also confirmed the collapse of a residential building in central Salalah as a result of heavy winds and rains. Emergency response crews on-site have stated that one person has died and three others have been injured in the incident, which took place at a housing complex for expatriate workers.

Rescue teams have also helped evacuate a family of 14 people to higher ground this morning [Sunday, May 31] in the Mirbat area after floodwaters entered their home.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have also responded to a number of obstacles on the Hamrir, Thumrait — Al Mazyona, and Thumrait — Marmoul roads which have resulted in traffic closures due to heavy runoff and flooding, and falling rocks and debris.

Dhofar Governorate authorities are urging all citizens and residents to take caution, avoid crossing wadis or flooded roads, and to stay away from low-lying areas as the tropical depression continues to cause risk of danger and damage to property.
