In statements issued online by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and Dhofar Municipality, officials have advised citizens and residents to avoid approaching valleys, crossing flooded roads and wadis, or going near electricity sources or lighting poles as the governorate observes heavy rainfall today [Friday, May 29].

The ROP have confirmed that a vehicle has been swept away near Al Mamoura Bridge in Salalah, with all occupants able to get out of the vehicle without injury.

As per the ROP, Dhofar’s Emergency Situations Management Committee has held a meeting chaired by Dhofar Governorate Police Commander, Brigadier Mohsen bin Ahmed Al-Abri, to “discuss the readiness of all sectors to deal with the weather situation.”

The meeting called for the dissemination of awareness messages to all citizens and residents to take precautions for safety — especially those living near coastal areas, or near streams and wadis, and to those residents who own camels.

Oman TV has also announced today [Friday, May 29] the evacuation of Sadah Hospital in Dhofar due to intensifying weather conditions.
