As Oman News Agency (ONA) reports, Eng. Basim al-Zedjali, Senior Health, Safety and Environmental Health Specialist at Madayn stated that, since beginning its procedures to fight the pandemic, inspection visits to 1,855 industrial units have been conducted up until last week. “Of these visits, 1,456 industrial units were found adhering to precautionary procedures, while warnings and practice correction notices were issued to 399 industrial units,” al-Zedjali informed.

He added that, during these inspection visits, Madayn officials aim to foster awareness among workers in companies and factories on safe and healthy practices in the workplace. “The visits also aim at applying penalties on those industrial units that are not committed to the procedures,” al-Zedjali pointed out. “Such violations include the lack of personal protection tools, the absence of physical distance between workers — especially those operating on production lines, and during rest areas; units that have not considered exempting employees with medical conditions and pregnant women, invalidity of temperature measurement devices with inaccurate readings, and insufficient quantities of hand sanitizers at the workplace.”

As per ONA, the inspection visits included the issuance of violations and closuresof industrial units that did not adhere to precautionary measures, as well as the closure of units in violation of the decisions of the Supreme Committee on COVID-19. Taking these into consideration, 15 industrial units were closed, and violations were filed for 13 units up until the end of last week.

Al-Zedjali noted that Madayn, in cooperation with the Oman Investment and Development Holding Company (Mubadrah), carried out sterilization and disinfection operations for 197 industrial units, in addition to sterilization operations which included all administration buildings in the industrial cities, Knowledge Oasis Muscat, and the Al Mazunah Free Zone.

As ONA reports, Madayn’s Emergency Room hotline has received 959 communications up until last week, receiving coronavirus-related enquiries and complaints on 2444-9685 or via WhatsApp at 9238-9609.
