Oman’s Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) has cautioned would-be fundraisers that it’s illegal to solicit or collect charitable donations in the Sultanate without obtaining a license from the Ministry first.
In a statement issued online, the MoSD drew the public’s attention towards the obligation of adhering to the country’s regulations surrounding the collection of charitable funds from the public — particularly over social media.
The MoSD also stated that: “Defamation of families and individuals by posting videos of them showing details of their living and housing conditions in order to ask people to collect money is prohibited. The Ministry confirms that such matters are criminal acts.”
