As countries worldwide continue efforts to bring home their stranded nationals abroad, Pakistan and the Philippines repatriated more than 800 citizens combined from Oman over the weekend.
In a statement issued online, the Embassy of the Philippines in Oman said that the first repatriation flight for Filipino nationals, operated by Oman Air, departed yesterday [Saturday, June 20] from Muscat International Airport bound for Manila.
Carrying nearly 300 Filipino citizens, the Embassy said that the initial repatriation flight was facilitated “with the support of the Filipino community in Oman to address the requests for repatriation of Filipino nationals affected by the pandemic — particularly Overseas Filipino Workers who have lost their jobs because of the impact of COVID-19 on businesses.”
The Embassy has also confirmed that it will “endeavor to arrange for subsequent repatriation flights to assist affected Filipinos.”
On Friday [June 19] the Embassy of Pakistan in Oman also confirmed the departure of three repatriation flights carrying stranded Pakistani citizens from the Sultanate.
In a statement issued online, the Embassy stated that two flights carrying a total of 284 passengers took off for Karachi, while another carrying 260 passengers to Islamabad also departed. The Embassy confirmed that, also on-board, were 120 passengers bound for Baluchistan.
Authorities further stated that the Embassy is continuing its efforts to “safely repatriate Pakistani nationals who wish to travel back to Pakistan.”
