Speaking last evening [Sunday, June 14] in an interview with Oman TV, Dr. Al Hosni stated that the community spread of the virus is still strong, and that numbers of gatherings — especially during Eid Al Fitr — have contributed to the rise in cases.

Dr. Al Hosni also stated that, since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 1,200 COVID-19 patients admitted to hospital, and the current number of hospitalized patients in the Sultanate stands at 313.

His Excellency also confirmed that 260 healthcare workers in Oman thus far have contracted the coronavirus, and stated that societies worldwide are far from social immunity.

Dr. Al Hosni also reiterated that a COVID-19 vaccine is not expected to be ready this year.
