As Oman records 1,679 new cases of COVID-19 registered today [Wednesday, July 15] the total number of cases in the Sultanate has now reached 61,247, while recoveries in the nation near the 40,000 mark.
Officials at the Ministry of Health (MoH) have confirmed 1,051 new recoveries on Wednesday for a total of 39,038 now classified as virus-free.
The country also marked eight new coronavirus fatalities today, raising the death toll to 281.
Muscat Governorate recorded the highest daily figure for new cases today, with 543 new infections bringing its total to 34,587, with the majority of cases concentrated in the Wilayat of Seeb, which saw 196 new cases today for a total of 12,716.
North Al Batinah saw the second-highest daily tally Wednesday, with 432 new cases — 124 of which were recorded in Sohar — for a total of 8,381 in the governorate. While, South Batinah registered 300 new cases for a total of 6,548.
As per inferences from the latest data on the Tarassud Plus app — Oman’s intuitive mobile app that tracks COVID-19 cases in the country per governorate and by Wilayat, the remaining breakdown of cases among the governorates is as follows:
The governorate of Al Dhakiliyah registered 116 new cases today, for a total of 3,355, followed by North Ash Sharqiyah with 96 new cases (total 1,407), Dhofar with 94 new cases (total 2,146), South Ash Sharqiyah with 75 new cases (total 1,598), and Al Dhahirah with 14 new cases (total 1,077.)
The governorates with the lowest numbers of confirmed new COVID-19 cases today were Al Buraimi, which had 7 new cases for a total of 648, Musandam with 2 new cases (total 40), and Al Wusta which reported no new cases today among its cumulative total of 1,460 in the governorate.
