Oman’s Government Communications Centre (GCC) have denied a rumour circulating online that alleges that the govenorates of North and South Al Batinah are under lockdown due to an increase in numbers of COVID-19 cases.
In a statement issued online today, [Sunday, May 31], the GCC clarified that “there is no truth to what is being circulated” and that such decisions to implement lockdown orders in any governorate in Oman are taken only by the Supreme Committee for COVID-19, in consultation with the Ministry of Health.
Authorities have cautioned the public against adhering to rumours, and to take news from credible sources only.
