Touching on developments amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the Sultanate, Supreme Committee members noted the following:
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi, Minister of Health
— There have been 1,099 new cases of COVID-19 registered today [Thursday, July 23], for an overall total of 72,646 confirmed cases.
— There have been 6 new fatalities today, bringing the death toll to 355, with 169 patients currently in ICU.
— A total of 287,588 COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the country to date.
H.E. Eng. Ahmed Al Dheeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry
— On the day of the lockdown announcement, the MoCI held a meeting chaired by the Minister Commerce & Industry, with the Chairman of OCCI and business industry representatives. They directed all businesses to stock up — especially importers and companies who provide products to shops.
— The decision was made to allow movement of trucks which are at least three-tons in size or more across governorates of Oman. These vehicles are allowed to transport perishable foodstuffs, dairy products, animal products, fish, and agricultural products.
— Also, fuel tanker trucks and trucks transporting cooking gas are allowed to travel during the lockdown period between governorates between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
— Airports, sea ports, and land borders will still be open for businesses and shipments, and factories will still remain active in all governorates — even those that operate 24 hours with approval from MoCI.
— All transport vehicles mentioned above will require a permit from the MoCI to move between governorates, and the MoCI calls upon businesses to fully cooperate with the directives of the Supreme Committee and give their employees enough time after working hours to reach home before 7:00 p.m.
