COVID-19 Live: Duqm also in lockdown from Saturday, domestic flights still on hold

Oman’s Supreme Committee for COVID-19 has announced during its 10th press conference held today [Thursday, June 11], that Duqm will be added to the list of sites in Oman under lockdown until July 3.

Touching on developments amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the Sultanate, Supreme Committee members noted the following:

Minister of Health, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi

1,067 new cases of COVID-19 have been registered today [Thursday, June 11] in Oman.

6,623 COVID-19 recoveries have been recorded as of today, with 90 deaths also reported thus far.

150,000 people in Oman who have come in contact with COVID-19 patients have been tracked by MoH officials.

Currently, a total of 232 healthcare staff in Oman have contracted the coronavirus.

Lockdown will also be implemented in Duqm starting Saturday, June 13 until Friday, July 3.

Studies show that the peak transmission period of the coronavirus is during the early stages of infection.

100 patients are currently in intensive care in Oman in both public and private hospitals.

100 recovered COVID-19 patients have donated immuno-plasma, and 100 patients still sick with the virus recovered as a result. H.E. offered thanks to those who regularly donate blood.

— Airports are all set for operation, though the Committee has decided to hold off on domestic flights amid the lockdown on some tourism locations in Oman.

— As for the resumption of international flights, it is a global issue, as many airports and aviation companies worldwide are not yet operational.
