Children, elderly prohibited from entering Muttrah Fish Market amid COVID-19 precautions

With fish markets across Oman allowed to re-open from last Wednesday [June 24], upon the decision of the country’s Supreme Committee for COVID-19, customers are obliged to follow a host of new precautionary measures.

In a statement issued online today [Sunday, June 28], Muscat Municipality has outlined new health and safety guidelines at the Muttrah Fish Market to help protect customers and staff from the spread of COVID-19.

Among the preventive steps to be followed are:

Children and the elderly will be prohibited from entering the market.

Customers must refrain from handling the fish.

A social distance of 1.5 metres must be maintained at all times.

The number of customers in the fish market should not exceed 30 per cent of its total capacity.

Only one gate will be used for entry and exit to the market.

Face-masks must be worn at all times, and customers with a body temperature higher than 37.5 degrees Celsius will not be allowed to enter.
