Alcoholic beverages in Oman will cost more as of July 1, 2020, as the government has announced a tax rate increase from 50 per cent to 100 per cent.
In a circular issued to alcohol distributors in the Sultanate today [Wednesday, June 10], the Oman Tax Authority said that the increase comes after a decision was made earlier to implement a 50 per cent tax on alcoholic drinks for a duration of six months.
“After studying the decision, the authority has decided to implement a 100 per cent tax rate on alcoholic drinks,” the circular read, starting from July 1, 2020.
The Selective Tax Law indicated in Article 15 of Ministerial Decision 112/2019 said that the taxable company must disclose the inventory in its possession by July 15, 2020.
