At the House of Amouage, creativity is defined not only by the final fragrance but by the refinement of the process itself. This philosophy is exemplified in the Essences Collection, known for its innovative double-infusion technique. The latest addition, Oud Zuhal, is a limited-edition release available exclusively in the GCC during Ramadan.
Developed under the direction of Chief Creative Officer Renaud Salmon, Oud Zuhal emerged from experimentation with alternative infusion materials. While earlier Essences used sandalwood, Salmon discovered that infusing perfume concentrate with oud chips created exceptional depth, timelessness, and resonance. This breakthrough became the foundation of Oud Zuhal.
Inspired by Saturn—known in Arabic as “Zuhal,” symbolizing remoteness, patience, and eventual generosity—the fragrance reflects themes of endurance and quiet strength. Its composition centers on rich oud, enhanced by black and pink pepper for lift, cardamom for contrast, patchouli for earthiness, and amber for warmth. A blend of Oud Assam and Indonesian Merauke oud creates a complex, full-bodied, and celestial character.
The Essences’ signature double-infusion process involves aging the concentrate with Merauke oud chips for 42 days and maturing the alcohol for six months in handcrafted oak barrels made by the French firm Allary. This meticulous process gives the fragrance a refined, seamless patina.
Presented in a bespoke flacon inspired by Oman’s dunes and planetary symbolism, Oud Zuhal embodies patience, craftsmanship, and the transformative power of time—capturing the essence of artistry at Amouage.
