Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has awarded five-year hoist services contracts to local companies ABRAJ Energy Services and Shaleem Petroleum Company to modernise its fleet, improve operational efficiency and strengthen local content.
The contracts cover 15 hoist units—nine for ABRAJ and six for Shaleem—to support well intervention and servicing operations. They are expected to deliver 7% direct cost savings against existing rates and a further 6% in cost avoidance against market trends, while maintaining PDO’s high health, safety, environmental and asset integrity standards.
The contracts will increase the share of modern hoist units in PDO’s fleet from 40% to 53%, reducing manual intervention and improving workforce welfare. Six modern units will be assembled in Oman, supporting knowledge transfer, national skills development and opportunities for local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in line with Oman Vision 2040.
PDO Managing Director Dr Aflah Al Hadhrami said the contracts would strengthen operational capabilities, improve cost competitiveness and support production growth, while building a more resilient national supply chain and contributing to Oman’s economic development.
ABRAJ CEO Eng. Saif Al Hamhami said the addition of six new-build workover hoists would expand the company’s capabilities and reinforce its commitment to safe, reliable operations and developing national talent.
Shaleem CEO Eng. Mohammed Al Sibani highlighted the company’s more than 25-year partnership with PDO and reaffirmed its commitment to operational excellence and developing Omani talent, with Omanisation exceeding 91%.
The awards support PDO’s Journey of Transformation, advancing production growth, cost competitiveness and operational excellence while maximising long-term value for Oman.
