Jindal Steel Oman and Oman Cement Company (OCC), a member of Huaxin, have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to utilize approximately 1 million tonnes of steel slag in cement clinker manufacturing.

Signed by Mr. Jiang Tao, Acting CEO of Oman Cement Company, and Mr. Harssha Shetty, CEO of Jindal Steel Oman, the partnership will use steel slag as an alternative raw material, reducing reliance on natural resources and promoting the productive reuse of industrial by-products.

The collaboration supports industrial symbiosis, a circular economy and lower-carbon cement production, contributing to Oman’s Net Zero 2050 ambition and Oman Vision 2040.

Mr. Jiang Tao said the partnership reinforces OCC’s commitment to sustainability by conserving resources, reducing industrial waste and creating environmental and economic value.

Mr. Harssha Shetty added that the initiative marks an important step towards a more sustainable, resource-efficient industrial ecosystem in Oman by transforming steel slag into a valuable resource.

The partnership reflects both companies’ commitment to practical sustainability solutions and more efficient use of industrial resources across the Sultanate.
