The Public Authority for Civil Aviation’s [PACA] Directorate General of Meteorology has issued a weather warning on a low-pressure system developing over the Arabian Sea which is expected to affect parts of Oman starting from Saturday morning [August 8].
As per this morning’s latest update, PACA authorities have stated that there has been a “reduction in severity of the expected weather system and the amount of rain associated with it.” Originally, projections anticipated between 40 to 100 mm of rain across various parts of the Sultanate over a 24 hour period starting from today [Friday, August 7].
That projection has now been reduced to 20 to 50 mm of rain starting Saturday morning, with rainy conditions lasting into Sunday [August 9]. Areas to be affected by rainfall are Muscat, North and South Ash Sharqiyah, Al Dhakiliyah, and South Al Batinah governorates.
PACA has indicated a risk of “fresh to strong winds, flash floods, and reduced horizontal visibility” in these regions during the weather front and has advised the public to “take precaution, and stay away from low-lying areas, avoid crossing wadis and avoid venturing into the sea.”
