The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and SABCO Media have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote awareness on children’s rights in Oman.
The partnership will design events and campaigns that will engage children and parents across the country on a number of topics related to the rights of children, such as early childhood development, quality education and a healthy environment. SABCO’s Media outlets (Al Wisal, Merge 104.8, and Virgin Radio Oman) will host several activities with UNICEF to amplify children’s voices across the Sultanate.
Sayyid Khalid Al Busaidi, Chairman of SABCO Group, said, “We are delighted to partner with UNICEF Oman. Children are at the heart of our society, and we want to hear their thoughts, opinions and raise their voices through our channels on topics that matter to them most. Being a leading media group in Oman comes with great social responsibility and this partnership is part of fulfilling that duty of care. We look forward to seeing many good things come to fruition through this partnership.
Sumaira Chowdhury, UNICEF Representative to the Sultanate of Oman said, “UNICEF supports the government in its efforts to fulfil the rights of every child, and we believe that this partnership with SABCO Media will help us raise awareness about children’s rights across the Sultanate, helping us to reach more children – and just as importantly, hear from them”.
The partnership between SABCO Media and UNICEF Oman will include the celebration of World Children’s Day (WCD) – a day for children, by children – which takes place annually on the 20th of November, the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. WCD mainly aims to highlight critical issues affecting children’s lives and supports the engagement of children and young people as advocates for their own rights.
