The direct effects of a newly-formed tropical depression are expected to start in the Sultanate by Sunday.

The National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards issued a warning, saying that a tropical depression is forming in the Arabian Sea, adding that it is currently centered in the Indian Coast (Gujarat).

Wind speeds are currently less than 17 knots and forecasters predict that there is a possibility of it developing into a tropical depression by tonight or tomorrow morning, and moving towards the coast of the Oman Sea in the next two days.

The effects are expected to start in the Sultanate by Sunday, mainly in North and South al Sharqiyah, Muscat, and Al Wusta.

Effects include rains of varying intensity, winds with speeds of 30-60 km/hour, rough seas and the possibility of sea water reaching low coastal areas, and they are expected to continue on Monday, and extend to North and South al Batinah, Al Buraimi, and Al Dhahirah.

Officials from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) warned the public to take their precautions, and avoid venturing into the sea or crossing wadis, and they urged people to keep a close eye on the weather report over the next few days.
