Twitter Co-founder Jack Dorsey is stepping down as chief executive of the company, and he will be replaced by the current chief technical officer Parag Agrawal. In a written statement, Dorsey said that it was finally time for him to leave, adding that he had deep trust in his replacement. While the reason for his departure remains unclear, many suspect that it has something to do with the fact that a number of Twitter investors felt that the co-founder, who also serves as chief executive of the payment firm Square, was not giving the social media platform the attention that it needed.

American actor Jussie Smollet’s trial began today. Authorities accused the 39-year-old actor of allegedly faking a hate crime against himself, in order to promote his career because he was “dissatisfied with his salary” on the TV show Empire. The actor filed a report back in 2019, saying that he was attacked by two men who shouted pro-Trump slogans at him and tied a noose around his neck, but police say he had paid two Nigerian brothers to pretend to shout racist and homophobic slurs at him for publicity reasons. Smollet has since been written off of the show.
