Movies streamed online will be eligible for next year’s Oscars after cinemas were closed by the coronavirus pandemic. Some movies, including Universal Pictures’ Trolls World Tour, have been released directly onto streaming platforms or video on demand. Current rules state that for a film to be eligible for Oscar nominations, it must be shown in a commercial motion picture theatre in Los Angeles for at least seven consecutive days, and screenings must occur at least three times daily.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games could be cancelled all together if a COVID-19 vaccine isn’t found soon. They were due to be held in July, but they were postponed for a year, but as the pandemic continues to affect the world, there are now doubts over whether the postponed games could take place. Scientists working on a vaccine have said it will take at least a year.
