The Supreme Committee held a press conference today to discuss Coronavirus developments in the country.
Here are the highlights:
- Minister of Health: The number of COVID cases in the country are rising and the virus mutated multiple times due to the people’s failure to comply with precautionary measures by doing things such as attending gatherings.
- Minister of Health: His Majesty Haitham Bin Tariq is doing all that is necessary to provide the vaccine and the shortage in vaccine doses has nothing to do with lack of finances. Oman was one of the first countries to join COVAX, and some countries are ordering more vaccines than they need.
- Minister of Health: Some people refused to get vaccinated due to rumors then they were admitted to intensive care units where they passed away.
- Minister of Health: 234 COVID-19 patients are currently in ICU and 1,789 COVID-related deaths in total.
- Minister of Health: Teaching staff will hopefully be vaccinated before the end of the year.
- Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion: The possibility of exempting delivery services from the movement ban was discussed but decided against due to difficulty in monitoring.
- Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion: Certain activities will be allowed to continue during the movement ban in Ramadan, including trucks carrying 3 tons, pharmacies and workers in the health and media sectors, on the condition that they carry permits.
- The Ministry of Health announced 1480 new Coronavirus cases, 13 COVID-related deaths and 920 recoveries in a 24-hour period.
- Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations: There is no truth to what has been spreading about the death of a citizen’s brother due to a lack of response from the ROP during the movement ban hours, as the call was made before the movement ban. He also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
