As Oman News Agency (ONA) reports, on Tuesday [June 16] the court awarded the perpetrator a three-year jail term for the crime, in addition to three months for the felony of using Information Technology to disrupt the public order. The two penalties will be merged, with the more severe one being applied, and the offender’s mobile phone has been confiscated and his Twitter account blocked. As per ONA, the verdict was published as a means to raise public awareness about such offenses.

The Public Prosecution Department confirmed that it will continue to take action against anyone who involved in legal offenses when using social media platforms, said the Attorney General, who explained that it will show no lenience against those who commit actions targeting the stable texture of Omani society.

In a statement issued by the Public Prosecution, the department expressed its thanks and appreciation for citizens who reported the crime and similar incidents.
