The second batch of young Omani female leaders concluded the first phase of their Sidrah Oman journey!
Sidrah Oman is a newly-launched collaborative program between Outward Bound Oman (OBO) and Lahunna Oman, and it saw hundreds of girls apply for its pilot phase.
This initiative mainly aims to build the future leaders of Oman. Lahunna Founder, Shatha Al Maskiry, further explains the program in the video below.
According to al Maskiry, nearly 700 girls applied within a span of 4-5 days! She added that the applicants hailed from all parts of the country, from Musandam to Dhofar.
The first phase of the program involves a four-day experience in Jabal Al Akhdar, and in phase two, the girls will be coached by an international tri-sector coach from Singapore’s prestigious National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA).
In phase one, the young future leaders face different challenges and activities in the rugged outdoors, with no phones or outside communication.
“We use the outdoor element in this program. We take them camping and hiking. We also do many problem solving activities for them, where we challenge them as a team, so that they use their talents, teamwork, and communication skills, to be able to solve these problems, ”said OBO’s Sukaina al Haddad.
Sidrah Oman also brought in Dr. Charles Chao Rong Phua, CEO and Strategist General at Solaris Strategies Singapore, as a tri-sector coach and knowledge parter for the program.
“OBO strengthens and toughens them by bringing them outdoors. We consolidate their strength indoors, by giving it the confidence to push their boundaries in terms of having a great idea, having a passion, and having the self reflection to crystalize their thoughts and articulate them, because that’s their baby, their idea, and their contribution to Oman Vision 2040,” Said Dr. Phua.
At the end of the program, Merge FM spoke to several of the participants, and they all gave raving reviews of their experience.
19-year-old Marya al Shaibani said this program provided her with a positive community where she felt she could openly share her experiences, and Yaqeen al Zadjali said she learned more about personalities and self reflection, through the different activities which included a hike, and an outdoor camping experience.
