Over 53,000 expats leave Oman in one month

Around 53,895 expatriates have left the Sultanate between the end of July 2020 and the end of August 2020, according to recent stats released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

By the end of July, Oman had 1,801,739 registered expatriates compared to 1,747,844 by the end of August this year.

Expats now make only 39 per cent of the Sultanate’s population. In May 2020, the accounted to 41.1 per cent.

Between August 2019 and August 2020, the number of expat workers in Oman has dropped by 14.3 per cent. 

Bangladeshis remain the biggest expat nationality in Oman with 565,011 while the population of Indians dropped from 617,730 in 2019 to 517,702 by August 2020 (17.9 per cent decrease).
