Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority outlines new guidelines for use of drones

Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued new guidelines for obtaining licenses to operate drones in the country.

As Merge 104.8’s sister station Al Wisal reports, a decision by the CAA states that the fee to acquire a drone license falls between OMR 25 to OMR 500, with the minimum age limit to acquire a license set at 18-years-old. Drones must also be ensured for “civil liability” during the period that the license if valid for.

For drones weighing under 5kg, individual applicants must pay OMR 25 for a license fee, while small commercial and government agencies will be subject to fee of OMR 100, and an OMR 300 fee will be applied to large commercial companies for the license.

Fees to acquire a license for drones weighing over 5kg is between OMR 400 to OMR 500 for large commercial enterprises, and between OMR 150 to OMR 300 for government agencies and small commercial companies.

As per the CAA directive, drone licenses will be valid for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal. For license-holders found to be in non-compliance with airspace rules, safety controls, and technical security measures, the license-holder will be subject to a fine of OMR 600.

For license-holders who violate the terms of use of the drone, based on the time and place specified in the license, will face a penalty of OMR 300.
