OmanNet online payment gateway temporarily suspended due to security breach: CBO

The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has issued a statement today [Friday, June 5] regarding the temporary suspension of its OmanNet online payment gateway for debit card use.

In the statement, the CBO said that it has suspended the OmanNet online payment gateway for the use of debit cards, and that consumers can avail the option of paying with credit cards or other cards if those options are available, until the service is restored.

As per the CBO, the move comes after attempts to hack into the portal were detected over the last few hours. The CBO has said that the matter is under investigation and will be followed up on and dealt with by the relevant authorities as per their procedures.

The statement also clarified that other electronic financial services such as payments via point-of-sale (POS) devices, ATMs, electronic fund transfers between accounts from the same bank and also between banks, and mobile transfer services are operating regularly.
