Between June 7-11, 16 labour violations were recorded by the General Federation of Oman Workers (GFOW) bringing the total number of complaints received to 289.
In a statement issued online, the GFOW said that the violations included the cutting of or non-payment of salaries, termination, forcing employees to take unpaid leave, using COVID-19 quarantine as reason to deduct employees’ annual leaves and, complaints filed against companies who did not comply with reducing the number of workers at job-sites.
In addressing such violations, the GFOW has said that it has negotiated up to 75 deals between companies and employees across various governorates to resolve labour disputes, with several companies being referred to the Public Prosecution.
