The Omani Astrological Society (OAS) has announced that a penumbral (semi-shadow) lunar eclipse of the moon will be visible in skies across the Sultanate on Friday, June 5, between the hours of 9:46 p.m. and into the early morning of June 6 until 1:04 a.m.
As Oman News Agency (ONA) reports, the peak of the lunar eclipse will be around at 11:24 p.m. on Friday.
The Sultanate is also set to witness a much more rare solar event on Sunday, June 21 as an annular eclipse will take place. This occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, creating what is known as a ‘celestial ring’ that won’t be witnessed again for another 83 years.
As per OAS, the annular eclipse will be visible throughout the Sultanate, and can be seen completely in the Wilayats of Qurayyat, Manah, Tayeen, Adam, Dima, Al Mudhaibi, Samail, Ibri, Izki, and Al Amerat, and can be seen partially in wilayats across the rest of the country.
