Selling cosmetic products that contain hydroquinone and mercury have now been restricted in Oman according to a decision announced today [Sunday, June 7] by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP).
His Excellency Dr. Saeed Al-Kaabi, Chairman of the PACP, issued a decision regarding the regulations of trade surrounding certain cosmetic products.
The decision states that, if a cosmetic product contains hydroquinone, it shall not be sold except after obtaining an approval from the Ministry of Health.
If a cosmetic product is found to contain mercury, the seller needs to obtain an approval from the Ministry of Trade and Industry before putting it up for sale.
The new ruling also said that an administrative fine of no less than OMR 50 and no more than OMR 1,000 will be implemented against violators. In cases of repetition of infractions, the fines would be doubled.
