As Oman News Agency (ONA) reports, the Sultanate’s invitation to participate in the meeting — which was attended by a number of the world’s health ministers, leaders, healthcare professionals, and national representatives — was due to its tangible role in supporting universal health coverage worldwide, and its prominent efforts exerted in this field.

As per ONA, during the meeting — which was moderated virtually from London — H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Saeedi explained in detail the preventive measures and procedures taken by the Omani government to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. He confirmed the importance of early preparedness as a key strategy to protect the health system and its workers on the front lines, as well as the Omani community.

The government of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik spared no efforts in the fight against the virus and its developments, H.E. the Minister of Health added, stating that His Majesty the Sultan has ordered, since the beginning of the pandemic, the formation of a Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from COVID-19, chaired by Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi, Minister of Interior, and with membership of officials from various concerned authorities, wherein His Majesty presided over some of its meetings.

His Excellency also pointed out that intensified media and educational campaigns conducted before the emergence of the pandemic and translated into several languages has contributed greatly in raising awareness among individuals. Moreover, the level of response to the health emergency, and the readiness of medical care centres and intensive care units has been raised. Health personnel, as well as the initial requirements of test supplies and personal protective equipment, have been provided in standard time when the whole world was experiencing an increase and pressure in demand for these materials.

The Minister of Health further stated that the Omani government has dealt with the crisis in a humanitarian way by providing free, comprehensive diagnostic and treatment care for both Omanis and non-Omanis.

He also commended the health personnel and their valuable role during this pandemic, being the first line of defense against the novel coronavirus.

The Sultanate is following the international approach in combating this pandemic — which can be observed in the deployment of modern technologies. His Excellency the Minister of Health also highlighted the success of the Sultanate’s endeavours in supporting and encouraging innovation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, where nationals were able to invent and manufacture respirators, sterilizers, and protective equipment for medical personnel.

During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Ahmed As Saeedi also expressed his deep thanks and gratitude to the government of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, as well as Oman’s health workers for serving the country. He confirmed that efforts have seen success with the commitment of both citizens and residents.
