Oman: ROP arrest suspects in incidents of drug smuggling, illegal sale of alcohol

The Royal Oman Police have arrested six individuals on charges of attempted smuggling of illegal substances into the Sultanate.

In a statement issued online today, [Monday, August 24], ROP authorities confirmed that Coast Guard units, working in tandem with the General Administration for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, arrested four suspects of Asian nationalities on a smuggling boat near the coast of Quriyat.

Meanwhile, in Dhofar, special task patrols in cooperation with Dhofar Governorate Police arrested another two suspects of African nationality found to be in possession of 12 molds of hashish, 4,400 tablets of Captagon, and five pieces of morphine.

In its statement, ROP officials called upon citizens and residents to “exert more cooperation to combat the scourge of drugs, and inform the police of any information that helps detect drug smugglers and traffickers by calling the toll-free number of the General Administration for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (1444) or going to the nearest police station.”

Also, in a second statement issued online this afternoon, ROP confirm that the Al-Mudhaibi Police Station, with the support of the North Ash Sharqiyah Governorate Police, have announced the arrest of two suspects on charges of “trading alcoholic beverages while transporting 120 bottles of alcoholic drinks in a private vehicle for sale.” Authorities stated that legal procedures are being carried out against them.
