Oman mourns loss of two former national team footballers

Football fans in Oman are coming to terms with the loss of two former national team players who passed away over the weekend.

In statements issued online, Oman News Agency (ONA) confirmed that former national football player and former Arab Club player Khalaf bin Zayed Al-Makhini died on Saturday [July 18].

While the cause of death was not revealed, ONA shared that Al-Makhini had played for Oman in the early 1990s, participating with the team in the 1990 Gulf Cup championship held in Kuwait.

ONA also announced the passing of 33-year-old former Oman national team striker Saad bin Obaid Al Saadi. Having played across various clubs in the Sultanate, Al Saadi first played for Oman in 2009 under the leadership of French coach Claude Leroy. Al Saadi succumbed to complications resulting from cancer on Saturday [July 18].
