Oman: First day of Islamic New Year to be public holiday

The first day of the Islamic New Year will be an official holiday in Oman. If the first day of the 1442 Islamic Year will fall on Friday [August 21], then the holiday will be given on Sunday [August 23], according to Oman News Agency.

Quoting the Astronomical Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Merge 104.8’s sister station Al Wisal states that, as per the ministry, if the new moon is sighted on Wednesday evening [August 19], then the public holiday will fall on Thursday, August 20.

An official decision on the holiday will be made and announced following the sighting of the new moon.
