Oman: After Muscat, Dhofar, North Batinah see highest daily spikes in COVID-19 cases Thursday

With 1,518 new cases of COVID-19 registered in Sultanate today [Thursday, July 9], total cases in the country have reached 51,725. Out of all the governorates, Muscat, North Batinah, and Dhofar saw the highest tallies of daily new cases.

While the capital region has recorded the vast majority out of all governorates, with 471 new cases today bringing the total in Muscat to 31,168, the governorates of North Batinah and Dhofar saw a surge in daily figures.

In North Batinah, 374 new cases caused the total in the governorate to cross 6,000 today, at 6,099, while Dhofar Governorate recorded 246 new cases for a total of 1,671.

As per inferences from the latest data on the Tarassud Plus app — Oman’s intuitive mobile app that tracks COVID-19 cases in the country per governorate and by Wilayat, the remaining breakdown of cases among the governorates is as follows:

The governorate of South Batinah registered 161 new cases today, for a total of 5,117, followed by Al Dhakiliyah with 114 new cases (total 2,624), Al Dhahirah with 57 new cases (total 795), South Ash Sharqiyah with 36 new cases (total 1,240), and North Ash Sharqiyah with 30 new cases (total 1,021).

The governorates with the lowest numbers of confirmed new COVID-19 cases on Thursday were Al Wusta, which had 19 new cases for a total of 1,392, Al Buraimi with 8 new cases (total 567), and Musandam with 2 new cases (total 31).
