Wind speed of the cyclone has increased to around 139 km/h as per the latest reports.
According to the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center the direct effects of the storm, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, have already started in Muscat and South Al Batinah. The direct effects will then begin in North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, and Al Dakhiliyah.
Authorities closed down Qurum Commercial District due to rising water levels, and they have asked the people there and the residents in the houses surrounding the area to evacuate.
The tunnel leading to Burj Al Sahwa roundabout, heading towards Seeb has been closed due to flooding.
The center of the cyclone is about 80 km away from Muscat.
The center of Cyclone Shaheen is expected to cross between Al Musanah to Saham today, between the hours of 5pm to 8 pm.
The CAA reminded people and fishermen to avoid low lying areas, wadis and the sea.
