“It’s scientifically proven that daily examinations for COVID-19 are not feasible,” says top MOH official

Speaking this morning [Thursday, September 3] at the 14th press conference of the Supreme Committee for COVID-19, committee members noted the following points:

— The ban preventing people over the age of 60 to visit malls has been lifted.

— There is a decision to allow 60 to 70 per cent of employees to go back to offices, but working from home is still implemented.

— COVID-19 can cause many other diseases that affect different parts of the body. Five cases in Oman got Type 1 diabetes as a result of the virus, while 30 per cent of COVID-19 ICU patients present with kidney failure.

— 221 people donated plasma in August — with the total number of donations since the beginning of the pandemic 911. 506 units of plasma were also donated in August with a total of 2,011 units donated since the start of the pandemic.

— There is a team formed with the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs to discuss the issue of reopening mosques.

— There will be another upcoming press conference to discuss the academic new year with the presence of the Minister of Education.

— Around OMR 32,800,000 in donations to the COVID-19 fund have been received in total, with around 28,600,000 used from the fund so far.

— An additional OMR 29 million has been spent by the Omani government only on tests — but if we added the rest of the COVID-19 expenses, then the cost is much higher.

— All COVID-19 tests conducted in government hospitals are released within 24 hours.

— It has been scientifically proven that daily examinations for COVID-19 are not feasible and a large number of countries of the world have adopted this procedure followed by the Sultanate.

— The health services in Omani hospitals have become better equipped and more developed in response to the pandemic since the beginning of the outbreak.
