Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived in the Sultanate today for a two-day official visit and he was welcomed at the Royal Airport by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, and several other officials.
The leaders of the two nations held an official session of talks at Al Alam Palace, with the main aim of strengthening the ties between their countries and enhancing the cooperation between them.
President Sisi first visited Oman back in 2018, and his visit helped to advance relations between the Sultanate and Egypt.
The two nations have enjoyed a great partnership over the past few years, and Oman has supported Egypt on several issues, including the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Ethiopia.
Prior to the president’s visit, the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee signed several memoranda of understanding and other agreements, in several economic, commercial and investment areas. The two are also looking to expand their cooperation, by explo
ring opportunities in areas of tourism, construction, mining and other sectors.
In terms of trade, the exchange between Oman and Egypt a big increase, from OMR 97.7 million in 2020 to OMR 205.8 million in 2021. Oman mainly exports oil and gas products, iron ore, polypropylene products, polyethylene and fishery products to Egypt, and it mainly imports vegetables, fruits, foodstuffs, and medical products.
