His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik delivered a royal speech today. Here are the main points of what he said:
The Ministerial Committee tasked with assessing and dealing with the damage caused by Cyclone Shaheen, should work as fast as possible to help those who were affected. All the relevant government departments are required to facilitate and cooperate with the committee, and the work of the committee will come under the government’s direct supervision.
A National Fund for Emergencies (NFE) will be set up in to deal with the effects of Cyclone Shaheen, and any other natural disasters that may occur in the future.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik expressed his appreciation to all establishments and individuals who helped in managing the crisis, and he particularly thanked the National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM), the ROP, the armed forces, the security services, the citizens and residents who volunteered in the affected areas, the Shelter and Relief sectors, the support services, the private sector firms, the non-governmental organisations, and the volunteer teams – who all gave excellent examples of citizenship.
Restoring a sense of normality to the cyclone-affected areas and providing them with the basic necessities, are the priorities at this stage.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik thanked the leaders of brotherly and friendly countries for their show of support, asking God Almighty to spare them of any harm or calamity.
