The UK’s longest-reigning monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, passed away today at the age of 96, and she was succeeded by her eldest son, Prince Charles.
The late queen served for seven decades, and her rule began in February 1952. She had a close connection with Oman, and the two nations’ Royal Families enjoy a strong, loyal and warm friendship that spans over seventy years.
The UK is currently the largest provider of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Oman, and the two countries share bilateral ties in several fields, including in politics, military, economy and culture.
While the foundation of the special ties between the two nations were originally laid by the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and the late Queen Elizabeth II, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik managed to maintain the deep-rooted ties to the British Royals.
In a statement released earlier today, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his deal condolences to His Majesty King Charles III, saying “The late Queen was a permanent friend of the Sultanate of Oman and contributed to strengthening the close bilateral relations between the two countries.”
His Majesty the Sultan visited Britain back in December 2021, and was hosted by the Queen at the Windsor Castle, and a month later in January, the two sides signed a Sovereign Investment Partnership deal, agreeing to work more closely on increasing high-value investments.
