Highlights from the Supreme Committee’s Meeting Today

The Supreme Committee held a press conference today, to discuss the latest Coronavirus developments. Here are some of the points they mentioned:

  • The Ministry of Health reported 1,453 new Coronavirus cases and 15 COVID-related deaths in a 24-hour period.  
  • Gatherings held during Eid Al Fitr resulted in a big jump in the number of COVID infections and COVID-related deaths, which is one of the reasons that the full lockdown was implemented this time.
  • The night lockdown resulted in a decrease of COVID cases.
  • The vaccination rollout will temporarily be stopped during the three days of full lockdown.
  • Government employees who refuse to get vaccinated, will face legal action.
  • Mixing Coronavirus vaccines from different brands is okay. This means that taking Pfizer as a first dose, and AstraZeneca as a second, or vice versa, will protect against the virus.
  • Hospitals, pharmacies, gas and water stations, factories, and warehouses, will be allowed to stay open during the lockdown. Trucks carrying essential materials less than 3 tons, will be allowed to pass.
  • Slaughterhouses of the municipality will be closed during the three days of Eid Al Adha.
