Today, February 6th, 2022, marks 70 years since Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II first took the throne back in 1952, making her the longest-reigning monarch in Britain, and the longest-serving female head of state in history.
The 95-year-old monarch called for the Duchess of Cornwall to be known as Queen Camilla when Prince Charles becomes king, and the government scheduled four days of festivities to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee.
Oman’s Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Hinai, congratulated the Queen on this special occasion, and he told Merge FM’s sister station Wisal FM of Oman’s special relationship with Britain.
“We would also like to point out that the Queen’s relationship with the Sultanate and with Sultan Haitham is at its best, just like it was with the late Sultan Qaboos.”
The ambassador also discussed Britain’s heavy investment in Oman, saying that the UK is one of the country’s top investors.
“The two countries have joint investments in the fields of energy, oil and gas, which reflects on their common interests. We in the Sultanate need British expertise in the areas of oil discovery, exploration and marketing. We hope to see more investments in other areas, as we would like to diversify.”
