State news agency WAM announced Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince and De Facto leader of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as the new president of the country, and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. He is now the gulf nation’s third president and the 17th Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The new president expressed appreciation for the trust that was placed in him by the country’s rulers, his brothers, and the Supreme Council, and he prayed to Allah the Almighty to guide him, and help him bear the responsibility of the trust that he was given.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik sent a cable of congratulations to his brother, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan, on his election as president, and he prayed to the Almighty to guide him in leading the Emirati people to achieve further progress, and prosperity.
Prior to his role as President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed served as the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The UAE is currently in a 40-day mourning period, and the Ministry of Presidential Affairs also suspended work in the private sector, as well as in ministries, departments, federal and local institutions, starting from today, for a period of 3 days.
